FIRST VOYAGE

Henry Hudson had been instructed to search for a northeast passage to China and India but instead he decided to go northwest. As he was going northwest he was recording maps of Greenland but because of the cold weather he was forced to head norheast. On his way east he came across a place called Spitzbergen, where seals and walruses lived. He continued sailing north towards the North Pole but the route was blocked by the Great Ice Barrier. They were in big danger as sheets of ice big enough crush the ship. As they were stuck he told everybody to pray and then a strong wind pushing the Hopewell into open waters. After this Hudson realized they could not go through Artic ice. The Hopewell ended the first voyage on September 15, 1607.
His first voyage was a failure but he discovered Whales Bay. The Muscovy Company organized hunting expeditions to hunt whales and walruses for the next 2 centuries to hunt whales and walruses, which Muscovy Company was very happy with.
