Henry Hudson was born in England. Historians believe it was around 1565. He died in Hudson's Bay Canada in 1611 after there was a mutiny on his ship and he was set adrift in a small boat with 7 crew members, including his son John Hudson. His boat went missing and was never found.

Not much is known about his youth either. But historians believe he was probably born in London and most likely in a wealthy family. He was married to a woman named Katherine. They had 3 sons: John, Richard and Oliver. His son John joined Hudson's crew as a cabin boy.

Hudson's grandfather founded a a trading company called The Muscovy Company.

Some people also believe that Hudson attended Harvard University.

HUDSON'S MOTIVATION

One of Henry Hudson's motivations could have been that his grandfather was the founder of the Muscovy Company, which may have inspired Hudson to explore and find a route to bring spices, gold, silks and porcelain in only one year instead of the known route that took three years.
Another motivation could have been Hudson's interest to continue the exploration of the Newworld. This is proven by all the maps that he has brought back.

HUDSON'S IMPACT ON CANADA

  • One posible impact Hudson had on Canada was making maps of unknown land in North America, he wrote about the different type of grounds and vegetation.

  • Hudson's exploration of the Hudson River led to important trade routes.

  • Hudson discovered the Hudson River for Holland on the third voyage. Hudson's exploration of the Hudson River lead to important trade routes. He also travelled in Atlantic waters, where Newfoundland and Labrador are. Hudson mapped whatever he discovered, which would be very helpful for other explorers.

  • Hudson had several encounters with the First Nations people. These did not go very well. Some of his crew members were killed. Because the native got into fights with Henry Hudson, it probably made the natives think that when other explorers came that they would try to hurt them.
